Bedford 0 Dexter 7 1 draw
The Dexter squad was strong; comprised of all returning starters from last year's team. Tony and Brent played well, but their match was ended early due to weather. They were down in both sets, but battled back to take the first. Their volleys won them most of their points. Aggressive play would get them to the net to finish the point by splitting the defense or hitting a well placed overhead.

Paul Jerzykowski had the match of the day as he took the first set easy, only to find himself down early in the second. He was able to rally back by breaking his opponent's serve to make it 5-5, but lost the next two games. He grabbed momentum early in the third set by holding serve without giving up a point. Paul found himself up 4-1; breaking Dieckmann's serve after a series of great points won by his backhand strokes and dominating volleys. They held serve for the remainder of the set to finish out the match. Allan Sulier and Brent Leist also rolled through their match with great serve and volley tactics and by creating open lanes in their opponent's defense after hitting several well placed overheads.

Steven Conn played the match of the day in a tough three set loss, which took three hours to complete. Steven found himself down a set because of his opponent's intense first serve and powerful forehand strokes. Going into the second set, Steven quickly grabbed momentum when his opponent broke strings during a point. Steven came back to tie the set up at 5-5, and easily broke service and held his own to take the set. In the third set with the score tied 3-3, Steven fell to the ground with severe cramps. After receiving medical attention from the trainer, he was able to win the next two points to take the game. After exchanging service breaks, the last two games went into several deuce points, but his opponent came out ahead. Tony Blank also played well in his match. He played patiently from the baseline, and kept his opponent guessing with serve and volleys.

#4 Robert Blosh and Ryan Pridgeon (B) vs Kevin Latondress and Brico Nocella (S) L 1-6 2-6.
Paul Jerzykowski won his third straight match with his victory in two sets. He struggled to get anything going early on, but was able to take advantage of his opponent's serves and flat forehands. He finished the first set with a break from a series of powerful backhands and overheads that were well placed into the corners. This momentum followed him into the second set where he continued to dominate his opponent's service games and held all but one of his own. Kyle Miller was sick, so freshman Josh Dotson stepped into the third doubles team with Josh Fuller. After a slow start, they were able to win some games late in the first set with great volleys and low, deep lobs. They continued their strong play in the second, but came up short in the final two games of the match. Preston Mortemore suffered a tough loss in three sets. He played a well balanced match from the start and found great success with his approach shots and relied heavily on his overheads. His volleys were played perfectly when given a chance, but his opponent's strokes were merely lobs throughout the entire match. He was never truly able to adapt to his opponent's unique style of play, but he showed great sportsmanship despite his frustrations.

(retired)
Bedford played some remarkable matches against the number 2 team in the state. Matt Glenn's first match since returning to the team was a great success. Matt and Allan Sulier found themselves down early after losing the first set. They adapted to Huron's style of play and were able to make adjustments for the remainder of the match. Volleys and overheads won them countless games and carried them into the third set with the momentum. Huron recovered and broke Matt's serve for a
3-1 lead, but Bedford broke back and held their remaining service games. Momentum shifted again in the tiebreaker after a 15 hit rally that ended by Glenn splitting the defense with an overhead smash.
Steven Conn played well in his three set match. He was very consistent from the baseline with his strokes and moved his opponent with every shot. He kept Huron guessing by using his slice and lobs wisely. Brandon Dersch and Kyle Miller played a strong match. They hit well from the baseline and attacked the net to put volleys away.
The match ended early when their opponent was injured after Brandon sent a deep backhand down the alley. The Huron player lost his balance trying to hit it from his feet while going backwards and fell onto his wrist.

#4 Brandon Dersch and Kyle Miller (B) vs Matt McKeen and Andrew Plate (A) W 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-4).
Brandon Dersch and Kyle Miller played their best match of the year.
They both limited their double faults to only a few for the entire match. They did well executing serve and volley tactics which allowed them to get to the net and put points away. Kyle frequently split the defense with his volleys and overheads while Brandon picked them apart with his alley shots and deep forehand strokes. Preston Mortemore played some of his best tennis of the season as well. He came out well prepared in every facet of the game. He hit very few neutral balls and kept his opponent running for every shot. His consistency began to grind down the other player in the second set, but after getting the score to 4-5, he was unable to break serve. The team, as a whole, elevated their level of play and we are looking forward to carrying this success into the second half of our season.

It was a difficult day for Bedford. The team was only able to win 6 games. Micah Maltos and Justin Newton remained aggressive despite Saline's dominant net game. They won the majority of their points by splitting the defense with their volleys. Although they both had low first serve percentages, they kept double faults to a minimum and made Saline earn each point.

(C) L 3-6 1-6.
#4 Josh Fuller and Josh Dotson (B) vs Phil Rara and Kendal Gabbard (C) L 2-6 4-6.
After a strong start to all our matches, we dropped three second sets.
In one of these matches, Tony and Micah settled back down and went up early in their third set. They adjusted well to Chelsae's lobs and positioned themselves to take them at the service line. Tony and Micah capitalized on weaker volleys and overheads that were a result of their opponents' second guessing shots.
Brent had his best singles match of the year. He had everything working for him throughout the entire first set. His serves set up great forehand shots that moved his opponent. This allowed him to move to the net quickly and finish off points. The momentum carried into the second without Brent making much of an adjustment. He found rhythm with Chelsae's lobs and kept the pressure on to get a win.
Finally, Paul pulled another victory out for the team. He played his most consistent match of the season. He had remained patient at the baseline and jumped on opportunities to get to the net. His overheads helped keep the momentum from swinging in this tight two set match.

The team placed ninth in the tournament after we received wins by Brandon, Kyle, and Brent. After a slow start with Monroe, Brent played the most exciting match of the year against Pioneer. Pioneer got more than he expected out of this quarterfinal match. Brent took the majority of points to deuce and had plenty of chances to put games away. The team rallied behind him through the entire match and it was a proud moment for everyone to see our senior play his last match the way he did. Brandon and Kyle were in a tight match with W. John Glenn that barely escaped a tiebreaker in the first set. They took this momentum and rolled to a straight set victory.

Bedford splits with Adrian
In the match of the day Micah Maltos and Aaron Hall played a tremendous match against Adrian's Brad Coley and Ryan Seymour. After losing the first three games, Micah and Aaron adjusted very well to the way Adrian was playing. They forced the issue at the net by hitting well placed volleys and over head slams. Aaron was hitting very good lob shots for winners and Micah was constantly hitting well struck forehands cross court which kept on their toes. The final score ended up being 8-4 in Bedford's favor. This was also Micah's and Aarons first ever match, so congratulations boys on your first career victory.
Also in action for the mules were Ryan Pridgeon and Cameron Zuck against Adrian's Joe Martin and Kris Porter. Cameron and Ryan played very well at times showing signs of brilliance but their lack of experience showed on some points. Both Ryan and Cameron were hitting very solid volleys for winners and hitting good defensive lobs to keep them in some points, but unfortunately Adrian was on top of their game and was just simply hitting better shots. Despite playing well Ryan and Cameron lost 4-8, good effort out there boys.

At the Chelsea Invitational our group of kids had many positive things to bring back with them. They played with great heart never giving up and never getting down on themselves. Despite taking last in the tournament, the boys played some of their best tennis this year. They played against state contender Brighten, Chelsea and Pickney.
Everyone on the squad showed these teams that they were not going to be a pushover. At three singles Justin Newton played against the two top kids in his draw. In the matches of the day Steven Conn at one singles and Allan Sulier at two singles came back after losing the first set in their matches. The boys never gave up and stuck with returning shots deep and making their opponent earn every point. The two in their respective matches tired out their opposition and prevailed with a victory in the third set super tie breaker. Congratulations boys on taking 2nd place, keep up the good work. Also playing very well was the three doubles team of Josh Fuller and Ryan Pridgeon. Both getting their first wins of the season and gaining a lot of confidence with that victory. Both the boys hit well placed volleys at their opponent's feet which set up well struck overheads that won them the point. Both Justin Newton and Josh Dotson played well despite losing. Justin hit some excellent backhand winners in his match against Chelsea. Those backhands kept him in many games and rallies. Josh hit some awesome serves that won him easy points, with the way these boys are progressing this season; they should be something special in the next years to come.

#2 Aaron Hall and Robert Blosh (B) vs. Anthony Michaels and Tony Emeralds (C) 3-6 6-4 10-4
In singles action for the Kicking Mules was Junior Justin Newton facing off against Chelseas' Corey Hodgins. Justin in his first ever singles dual match played like he has done it numerous times before. Justin kept his opponent running from sideline to sideline making it hard for Corey to ever have a clean look at a ball. Justin played very well and won easily. Congratulations Justin on your first ever singles victory. In doubles action for the Mules was the teams of Ryan Pridgeon, Cameron Zuck and Aaron Hall, Robert Blosh. In our one doubles match which included Ryan Pridgeon and Cameron Zuck, there was some really good tennis played on that court. It looked like our boys were going to take the first set but a break of our serve hurt us and Chelsea took advantage of it. Ryan hit numerous winners off his forehand side and his dangerous overheads. Cameron played phenomenal at the net and when he struck the ball well, he and Ryan won points. In the match of the day Aaron hall and Robert Blosh showed some great heart and did not give up one bit when they were down. They were down in the first set 0-5 then stormed back to make it 3-5 then ended up losing the first set. Then the boys were down 1-4 in the second and on the verge of losing, but Robert and Aaron kept their heads up and fought back by winning five straight games to win the second set. Then Aaron and Robert completely dominated in the 3rd set tiebreaker by winning 3 of the first 4 points and never looked back from that point. Congratulations boys on a hard fought victory.
