 Bedford
Invitational - championship game Thank
you Mrs. Groff for this photo

0 AA Pioneer 7 There is not much to say about our game tonight as
we were humbled by Ann Arbor Pioneer 7-0. Our play was nowhere near indicative
of our ability, and choose the wrong game to not use our work rate. We must quickly
learn and rebound from this game, as we are at a very strong Ann Arbor Huron team
on Thursday.

1 AA Huron 4 In
a game of two halves and missed chances, we lost 4-1 to Ann Arbor Huron tonight.
We gave up 2 goals in the first ten minutes, and we dug ourselves a tough hole
to climb out of. From there however, the boys finally woke up and played AA Huron
to a solid game. We had several chances that should have converted, but could
not find the back of the net. As our inexperience in these type of games is evident,
it is a good sign, however, that the boys came to play in the second half and
can now build upon a half where they showed that they could play with one of the
better programs in the state. Scoring our goal tonight was Eli Groff, and playing
well were Eric Thomas, Ramon VanderDoes and Seth Rettig. Our record now stands
at 5-2. 9-3-08 Bedford
2 Dearborn Fordson 3 There was not much to talk about with tonight's
game, as we lost 3-2. We took a 2-0 lead, but as is said always is in this sport,
a 2-0 lead is the most dangerous, and Fordson proved that. We unfortunately put
together our poorest effort the season so far, but we have to give our hats off
to Fordson for their work rate. Scoring goals tonight were Eli Groff and Micah
Bellas and playing well was Greg Pontasch. Our record now stands at 5-3. 9-11-08
Bedford 1 Ypsi Lincoln 1
In a game of two
fairly even teams, it was a story of two sloppy goals that ended the game in a
1-1 tie. Micah Bellas scored the lone goal, on a direct service that slipped through
the Lincoln keepers hands. Ypsi scored late in the second half to even the score,
and both teams had opportunities to take the lead, but to no success. Playing
well for Bedford were Eddy Turner, Micah Bellas and Kevin Karmol. 9-13-08 Alpena
Inivtational Bedford 1 Bay City Central 0
In the opening game of the tournament, Seth Rettig scored in the 2nd half to give
us a well deserved win. Although out shooting Bay City 15-1, we could not put
more then one into the back of the net in a game we dominated from the first whistle.
Playing well was Korey Pavlika and Seth Rettig. Bedford
3 Boyne City 0 In the 2nd of back to back games, our offense awoke
a bit against Boyne City. In a game that we again dominated, allowing only one
shot on goal, Kevin Karmol, Korey Pavlika and Eric Thomas scored. Nick Kimmey
did a good job of controlling the middle of the field, and it showed in the score
line. Eric Thomas, Ramon Vanderdoes and Eli Groff played well. Bedford
1 Alpena 2 In the championship game, we made two very, very silly
early mental mistakes and could not recover, although we played our most proper
and technical game in the championship. We allowed two goals on a indirect kick
from 10 yards away and goalkeeping error due to the extremely wet field conditions,
and these are mistakes that cannot be made against a hard working side like Alpena.
We again possessed the ball very well, and out shot Alpena 14-3, but the ball
just did not bounce the way we needed it to after digging ourselves into a hole.
Micah Bellas scored, as Kyle Menzel, Nick Kimmey and Korey Pavlika played well.
Our record now stands at 7-5-1 heading into a very tough game against Tecumseh
tonight at home. 9-16-08 Bedford
1 Tecumseh 0 In
the varsity game, the boys put together one of their strongest efforts of the
season, winning 1-0. We held Tecumseh to just one shot on goal, and created several
quality scoring chances but were only able to put one into the back of the net.
Mitch Cousino scored the game winner with 13 seconds to go in the first half,
on assists from Eli Groff and Micah Bellas. Our defense played extremely well
tonight, and our midfield possessed and transitioned very well. This was a big
win for us against a very strong SEC white leading Tecumseh team, and I am very
proud of the boys for their effort. Our record now stands at 8-5-1. Thanks,
Pat

2 Chelsea 1 In the varsity game, we pulled out a tough, ugly win
at Chelsea, 2-1. It was a very choppy game, and Chelsea worked very hard, protecting
their home field advantage. However, we were able to go on the road to a very
tough place to play and pull out an ugly win, which shows our budding maturity
as a team. Micah Bellas scored in the first half, and Eli Groff scored the game
winner in the 2nd from Mitch Cousino. Our record now stands at 9-5-1, with out
next game being at home against Monroe on Saturday for Bedford's community night. 9-20-08 Bedford
1 Monroe 1 In
our annual rivalry game, we played Monroe to a 1-1 tie. It was not a particularly
strong game for us, as we out shot Monroe 9-1, but could not take advantage of
our opportunities. Monroe scored on a penalty kick early in the first half, and
played strong defense the rest of the game, holding us at bay until 4 minutes
left, when Eli Groff scored on a very nice finish to knot the game at 1. While
we pressured very heavily still in the last 4 minutes of the game, we could not
get the game winner, and wound up regretting the opportunities we didn't take
advantage of. While it is a frustrating result for us, the boys did well to come
back. Playing well were Eddy Turner, Chad Miller and Eli Groff. Our record now
stands at 9-5-2. 9-23-08 Bedford
2 Dexter 1 In the varsity game, we took a hard fought 2-1 win from
Dexter in our first win against them since 2004. It was a well played game in
which both sides worked hard to create opportunities, but we did well to convert
ours. Mitch Cousino played an excellent game, scoring both goals off of assists
from Dan Thompson and Kyle Menzel. Eddy Turner, Dan Thompson, Ramon VanderDoes
and Chad Miller played very well in the back and limited Dexter's chances throughout
the game. Dexter is a strong, state ranked opponent, and the boys did well to
earn the 3 points and give us a strong win heading into our Thursday game against
Adrian. Our record now stands at 10-5-2. 9-25-08 Bedford
3 Adrian 1 The varsity boys took a 3-1 win in an ugly game. Adrian
always has a propensity to play us tough, no matter the record or team, and they
did so again tonight, We held Adrian to two shots on goal in the game, and pressured
them highly, putting 14 shots on frame, but couldn't find the onion bag more often.
Micah Bellas had a goal and an assist, while Kevin Karmol and Eric Thomas also
scored. With a SEC showdown tomorrow night against Pioneer, the boys must find
their form quickly. Our record now stands at 11-5-2 (4-3-1 SEC Red).

Bedford 0 AA Huron 4
This is Kirk Brazeau with Bedford soccer and our results against Ann Arbor Huron tonight. We lost 4-0 in a game where the scoreline was extremely deceiving. The game was 0-0 for the first 70 minutes, but Ann Arbor Huron scored on a fluke goal, and from there the floodgates opened. It was a very tough result for us as we worked hard throughout the game and created opportunities in a back and forth situation for the first 70 minutes, but took a small vacation and Ann Arbor Huron punished us for it. Once again, in playing one of the better teams in the state, we don't have the luxury of taking any time off with our schedule. Playing well tonight were Eddy Turner, Nick Kimmey and Ramon VanderDoes. Our record now stands at 11-7-2 and we have no time for the weary, as we face one of the better teams in Ohio on Tuesday, Toledo St. John's.
10-9-08
Bedford 1 Saline 2
In both teams last regular season game, Saline, the 4th ranked team in Division 1, came away with a 2-1 win to clinch the SEC Red title. While the boys played a fairly strong game, we fell into an early 2-0 deficit, which proved to be too much to overcome. Mitch Cousino scored in the second half to bring the game within reach, but our pressure didn't come to fruition as we couldn't put another in the back of the net. I am very proud of the boys for their work rate and determination against such a strong side, and hopefully we can learn and apply as much as possible from this experience going into District play. Playing well were James Brobst, Mitch Cousino, Kevin Karmol, Eli Groff and Eric Thomas. Our record now stands at 11-9-2 with 7 our of our nine losses coming against some of the best programs in Ohio and Michigan. We open district play next Tuesday at home against Monroe @ 5:30.

District semi-final
Bedford 1 AA Pioneer 0
In one of, if not the biggest win in school history, the Bedford boys won the game 1-0 tonight at Woodhaven. Playing against a Pioneer that we have never beaten, the boys picked a great time to notch their first win against the Pioneers. It was a game that Pioneer carried much of the play, our defense played very well in keeping Pioneer off the board. Although being out shot throughout the first 70 minutes of the game, the boys stepped up in the last 10 minutes and brought the play to Pioneer, and James Brobst converted the game winner with 48 seconds left off of a pass from freshman Brendan Renius. Greg Pontasch was by far the player of the game, keeping Pioneer off the board with some spectacular saves and essentially allowing us to come out of the game with a win. The entire defense played extremely well, forcing Pioneer to many perimeter chances and essentially bending and not breaking, which in turn wore down the Pioneer attacking players. This gave us the boost we needed, and the boys passion and drive took over from there. Playing well tonight were the entire back 4, Mitch Cousino, Ramon VanderDoes, Micah Bellas and Chad Miller as well as Eli Groff, James Brobst and Eric Thomas. We move onto play 4th ranked Saline in the District Final at 12:30 on Saturday in Woodhaven. Just a phenomenal effort tonight that I could not be more pleased with. I am extremely proud of the boys and the resolve and moxie that they showed tonight.

District Final
Bedford 2 Saline 6
In a game that we knew would be very tough, 4th ranked Saline came out on top with a 6-2 win. In a loss that can be described as a learning experience for a rather young team, Saline showed why they are the one of the best teams in the state. Saline took a very early 1-0 lead, but we did well took come back and tie the game at 1 off of a beautiful shot from Nick Kimmey. Saline however would score within the next 5 minutes, but the boys settled in a bit and played with Saline until the last ten minutes of the fist half, when Saline got a bit of luck on an own goal by one of our defenders, but would then score two very nice goals to stretch the lead. Nick Kimmey would add another nice goal off of a Micah Bellas free kick in the second half, but Saline had put the game away by that time. It is an unfortunate result, as we did not play near the ability that we showed on Thursday night against Pioneer, but Saline is definitely a very respectful and highly skilled team. Saline is extremely well coached by Brian Lampmann, and I feel that they have a real chance to make a run at a regional and state title. It is tough to lose the 5 Seniors from this year's team, but the future looks very bright for the program, and the boys gained very valuable experience in their district run. Nobody thought that we would have 13 wins this season with the schedule that we play, especially with wins against power programs such as Dexter and Ann Arbor Pioneer, but I am very, very proud of this team and the progress they have made. We definitely do not have the luxury of playing any easy teams on our schedule or allowing ourselves to take any days off, but the boys did very well to get through the grind, and have set a good precedent for future teams to follow.
