Bedford 13 Onsted 0
In this game, our girls showed progression, and worked very well off the ball, which led to a 13-0 mercy rule win over a very young onsted team. Sam Barker led the way with 4 goals and an assist, while Sam Pavlika added 3 goals and an assist. Hilary Hannigan chipped in two goals and added three assist, with Kelsey Menzel and Amelia Davis adding a goal and an assist a piece. Katelyn combs also scored, an Courtney Thomas added her 1st varsity goal and assist tonight. Chayna Wallace was credited with her 3rd shutout of the season.
We looked sharper than we had in past games, but have much, much, much more work to do in order to get where we want to be. Onsted is a young program, but a program that reminds us of who we were two years ago when we began building from scratch. They will be a solid team, its just takes time.

Bedford 5 Adrian 0
Sam Barker had two goals and three assists, Chayna Wallace recorded her fourth shutout and Lynn Hendricks, Sam Pavlika and Hilary Hannigan all scored for the Mules. Jackie Harrison, Taylor Pirrone and Erica Torres played well.
4-21-09
Bedford 0 Saline 2
In fairly poor weather and field conditions, Saline cam away with a 2-0 victory. While some teams tend to be happy with this result, we feel that we did not play nearly to our capability. Saline is once again a strong side and a measuring stick for our program, but we gave up two very easy goals that were simple mental errors. While we can say that our sloppiness and rust was due to this being our first game in 2 and a half weeks because of spring break, we are not in the business of making excuses and we just flat out need to play better. Giving a team like Saline very, very easy goals is a recipe for disaster, and we must be sharper going forward. Playing well tonight were Kelsey Menzel, Taylor Pirrone and Amelia Davis. Our record now stands at 4-1 heading into a game at Ypsi Lincoln on Thursday.
4-23-09
Bedford 2 Lincoln 1
On a nice day with the exception of the wind, which we cannot seem to play a game without, we worked well for a 2-1 win. Although the score was much closer than we would have liked, it is a good win for us to get at what is always a tough place for us to play. We out shot Lincoln 11-1, and possessed the ball fairly well throughout the game, carrying the play. Lynn Hendricks scored on a great finish in the first half assisted from Jenny Nocella, and Sam Pavlika added the game winner in the 2nd half off of a beautiful through ball from Jackie Harrison. Playing well tonight were Amelia Davis, Kelsey Menzel and Hilary Hannigan. Our record now stands at 5-1 heading into the Monroe Invitational this Saturday.

Monroe Invitational - CHAMPIONS
Bedford 2 Trenton 1
Bedford 2 Milan 0
Bedford 3 Monroe 0 CHAMPIONSHIP
Sam Pavlika, leads the Mules to an undefeated Bedford Invitational championship. Bedford continued to play impressive soccer, boosting their record to 8-1.
4-28-09
Bedford 8 Tecumseh 0
In the varsity game, the girls continued their recent strong play by beating Tecumseh 8-0. Sam Barker set a school record for most goals in a game tonight with 6, as she played very technically efficient, finding her way in behind the Tecumseh defense and finishing clinically. Jackie Harrison and Kelsey Menzel also scored tonight, with Sam Pavlika adding 3 assists. Things become much tougher for us on Thursday as we travel to play at state ranked Chelsea. Our record now stands at 9-1.
5-2-09
Bedford 5 Monroe 0
In the Bedford girls soccer first official community night, the girls came away with a 5-0 win over Monroe. As we had done the week before, we kept possession of the ball extremely well, and utilized open space. This coupled with a very solid work rate was too much for Monroe to overcome as the girls continued their recent run of success. Amelia Davis recorded three goals and an assist, while Sam Barker and Hilary Hannigan added the other goals. As a program motto, the girls refused to accept any excuses and simply let their play speak for itself, which it did in convincing fashion. Chayna Wallace registered her 8th shutout of the season, as we out shot Monroe 14-2 in the game. Playing well for us tonight were Jackie Harrison, Kelsey Menzel and Erica Torres. Next up for us is a very difficult game against Dexter, who always plays us very well. Our record now stands at 10-1.
5-5-09
Bedford 1 Dexter 1
In a highly competitive game, we came away with a 1-1 draw. We did not particularly play well tonight, as we did not possess or value the ball consistently throughout the game, as well as not finishing on our chances. When we did hold possession, we dictated much of the tempo, particularly in the first half. In the second half however, the game became much more wide open, and Dexter did well to capitalize on a counter attack to take the lead with 10 minutes left in the game. We pressed well for the rest of the game, and eventually leveled the score in the last minute on a beautiful shot from Sam Barker, her 21st of the season, from about 35 yards out. Unfortunately, by no means was this one of our stronger efforts of the season, but we by far created the more dangerous of the scoring opportunities, ringing a shot off the bar and missing several wide open chances. However, Dexter is a Division 2 honorable mention state ranked quality opponent, and hopefully the girls will build off of this disappointment. Our record now stands at 10-1-1.
5-7-09
Bedford 8 Adrian 0
In the varsity game, the girls came out on top with an 8-0 win. In a game in which we out shot Adrian 17-0, we dominated play from the beginning and gained continuity heading into the home stretch of our season. Sam Barker and Kelsey Menzel led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists and a goal and 3 assists, respectively. Jamie Spencer also added her first career varsity goal, and Jenny Nocella, Amelia Davis, Sam Pavlika and Katelyn Combs also found the back of the net. Our record now stands at 11-1-1 heading into a very tough game tomorrow at Ann Arbor Huron.
5-8-09
Bedford 1 AA Huron 3
In the varsity game, the girls played a strong first half, but allowed Ann Arbor to score two goals in the second half to drop the match 3-1. Although we were tied 1-1 at half on a Karen Karmol goal, we had several good opportunities to finish and the Huron made some great saves to keep the game tight. Against a team like Huron, you can afford very little room for error, and unfortunately, simple mistakes led to their markers in the second half. Playing well tonight were Kelsey Menzel and Amelia Davis. Our record now stands at 11-2-1.
5-11-09
Bedford 0 AA Pioneer 1
In the varsity game, we dropped a disappointing decision to Pioneer 1-0. While Pioneer is once again a strong side with great possession qualities, we had our opportunities to level the score, and even pull ahead in the second half. Pioneer scored 3 minutes into the second half on a corner in which a lucky bounce off of a players heel, thatfell perfectly to another Pioneer player just outside the 6 and had an open net to finish into. We played with much more urgency in the second half and a few clear cut dangerous opportunities, but they were not finished appropriately. It is a tough game for us to lose, but strong programs such as Pioneer always have a knack for finding ways to win, which is something we definitely must learn. Learning how to win tight games is definitely a key for us, with our last 2 results against Pioneer and Huron have been tied going into the second half. Playing well tonight were Jackie Harrison, Amelia Davis and Jamie Spencer. Our record now stands at 11-3-1.
5-12-09
Bedford 9 SMCC 1
SENIOR NIGHT
On senior night, the girls played through one very rusty half and applied themselves in the second to win 9-1. With the score only 1-0 at halftime and the girls looking very tired from yesterday's game against Pioneer, they woke up in the second half and played more passionate and intelligent soccer. SMCC's high work rate created problems for us all night, but we were able to settle down and let the ball do the work a bit for us in the second half. Sam Barker scored her 24th and 25th goals of season tonight, and in doing so, broke the school record for most goals in a season. Also scoring were Erica Torres, who notched her first varsity career goal, Kelsey Menzel, Jackie Harrison, Amelia Davis, Hilary Hannigan, Sam Pavlika and Lynn Hendricks. Amelia Davis also broke the single season assist record at Bedford by notching her 14th of season tonight, and the overall team set a new standard by breaking the most goals in the season record tonight by bringing our goal total up to 81. Playing well tonight were Taylor Pirrone and Erika Torres.
5-14-09
Bedford 1 AA Huron 1 Parents Night
On parents night, the girls played to a very hard fought 1-1 draw. It was a tightly contested game, with much of the play coming in the middle third of the field. We did well to go up 1-0 at the end of the first half, on a strong combination in which Lynn Hendricks put the ball into the back of the net. The scored stayed that way, and as Huron applied strong pressure throughout second half, they were awarded a pk on a handball with just under 10 minutes left, when they knotted the score at one. Although the girls were forced to play with 10 for the final ten minutes after a red card was given for a handball on the goal line, they did fairly well to preserve a point. Playing well tonight were our back 4 of Jackie Harrison, Christen Potter, Taylor Pirrone and Kelsey Menzel. Our record now stands at 12-3-2.
5-18-09
Bedford 4 Chelsea 1
In the Varsity game, the girls came away with a strong 4-1 victory at Chelsea. Amelia Davis notched a pair of goals and an assist, and Sam Barker and Sam Pavlika also added one a piece. The girls did very well to capitalize on their opportunities, particularly in the first half where the score ended at 3-1. The girls did well to start the week on the right note, heading into two more tough matches against Saline and Pioneer. On a side note, tonight the girls broke the school record for wins in a season with 13, and hopefully we can add a few more to the record. Playing well tonight were Katelyn Combs and Jenny Nocella, and our record now stands at 13-3-2.
5-21-09
Bedford 1 Saline 1
In the varsity game, the girls came away with a well played 1-1 draw. With chances at a premium throughout the game, Saline took the lead with 1:00 minute to go in the first half off of a very nice individual effort. However, the girls came out strong in the 2nd half, creating several good opportunities, but finally breaking through on a very nice goal from Sam Barker, assisted by Katelyn Combs and Karen Karmol. I was very proud of the girls, especially in showing the moxie to earn a point in a very tough place to play. They also did so even though they lost 3 defensive starters to injuries throughout the game. Playing well tonight were Lynn Hendricks, Jackie Harrison and Chayna Wallace. Our record now stands at 13-3-3 with our final game tomorrow night at Pioneer.
5-22-09
Bedford 0 AA Pioneer 1
In a very tightly played game, we came out on the wrong end of some missed opportunities and a questionable call, and lost 1-0 to Ann Arbor Pioneer. In what was a game mainly played in the middle third of the field, we generated a handful of solid scoring opportunities in the first half, even hitting the cross bar. However, in a game that just had the feel that one lucky break would send a team to victory, Pioneer was awarded a penalty kick in the final 5 minutes, which they converted for the final 1-0 score. Playing well were Amelia Davis, Hilary Hannigan, Jenny Nocella and Taylor Pirrone. We finish the regular season at 13-4-3 and open districts at defending state champ and honorable mention state ranked Ann Arbor Huron on Tuesday at 7:00.
5-26-09
Bedford 0 AA Huron 1
In a very tough game, we came out on the short end of a 1-0 loss to the defending state champion. In yet another very close loss, the girls held Huron to only 4 shots on goal for the game, and the games only goal came off of the foot of one of our defenders, and took a fairly fortunate deflection into the net. The tough part of the game is that we know we could have played much stronger, and in doing so, could have continued our season. We finish the season at 13-5-3, and playing well tonight were Amelia Davis, Taylor Pirrone, Jenny Nocella and Kelsey Menzel.
The hardest part as a coach, however, is not being able to coach some of the girls again, as we graduate 11 seniors from the team. The girls have been a phenomenal group of individuals, and I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to coach them throughout their high school careers. They just completed the best season in Bedford Girls Soccer history, setting numerous new school records and playing a much better style of soccer. It is a very unfortunate end to an extremely successful season, and definitely a tough pill to swallow.
