Wrestling Camp Designed to Forge Champions Coming to Bedford this Summer

Wrestlers looking to hone their skills over the summer are invited to sign up for Forge Wrestling Camp. The intense three day commuter camp, which will run from July 14-16, 2008, is designed for middle school and high school wrestlers ready to take their mat skills to the next level.

The staff of Forge Wrestling Camp includes an impressive line up of college and high school coaches. Penn State Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Matt Dernlan and Lehigh University Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Tim Dernlan will be on the mat with the wrestlers. Both were successful college wrestlers and 3x Ohio state champions. Aaron Anspach, Penn State University’s Director of Wrestling Operations and 2007 NCAA Runner-up, is also on board. As coaches at top collegiate wrestling programs, they have a wealth of knowledge to share with developing wrestlers. The camp will also feature local guest clinician Dennis Brighton, Bedford’s varsity wrestling coach and himself an NCAA Runner-up, and guest speaker William Regnier, former Bedford wrestling coach and National Coaches Hall of Fame Member.

At Forge Wrestling Camp, wrestlers will receive advanced instruction on successful techniques and training methods. The all-day training sessions will help young wrestlers develop the skills to become champions.

Forge Wrestling Camp runs July 14th, 15th, and 16th on the campus of Bedford High School in Temperance, Michigan. The cost of the camp is $125. A team discount of $25 per person is available for teams bringing five or more wrestlers. Applications are available on-line at www.bedfordwrestling.com

i9 Sports is redefining youth sports across the nation. We believe that participation in an organized youth sport activity is about more than just the sport… it’s about the entire experience for the parent and the child. It’s what we call the i9 Sports Experience - made up of the following core principles:

Fun. We believe that the primary reason children play sports is to have fun. They love mastering new skills, developing friendships, and healthy competition. We avoid spoiling the fun by focusing more on skills development and enjoyment of the game than on the score or outcome.

Inclusivity. That’s our word for everyone’s right to play and have fun. Our program is for everyone, regardless of race, gender, religion, or ability level. No child will ever be excluded by a try-out, be made to feel like they aren't good enough because of a league draft, or be cut from a team. We endeavor to play every child at least half of every game.

Safety. We believe your child’s safety is paramount. As such, we background check each of the adults supervising your children and hire trained officials for each game to ensure that “safe play” is enforced.

Good Sportsmanship. We believe that learning to play the game is only half the equation. Helping children develop character is the other half. The value of teaching children teamwork, fair play and good sportsmanship goes far beyond the game.

Everyone is a Winner. Competition is a natural instinct. However, the “win-at-all-costs” mentality so prevalent in youth sports today is not only destructive to team morale, it severely undermines individual self-esteem. We believe everyone is a winner and should be both encouraged and given the opportunity to make the most of their abilities.
